Benevolent Street got a chance to attend a recent Full Moon Horror Road show in Indianapolis. The Road Show is a horrorcade on wheels that makes stops all over the country. With more than 300+ movies contributed to our favorite genre, the Road Show, according to Band, is his way of getting out there and meeting the people that have and continue to help keep Full Moon alive.
An open venue suited for concerts, the Irving Theater is now filled with church pews for the evenings services. Trailer reels roll on stage where the screen is also accompanied by an electric chair (more on that later) and a massive evil bong from Evil Bong 2: King Bong. The soundtrack blares and the trailer rushes through countless shots from the Full Moon archives. After reaching a break-neck pace, the trailer reel stops, and from behind the screen walks Charles Band.
To much applause, he begins discussing the purpose of the Road Show, and continues with multiple stories from how he started in the business, to utter hilariousness in regards to such topics as Gary Busey (the “Where’s your bush” story was great). For someone that has dreamed up so many ways for monstrous dolls to butcher a person, and someone that has created so many different creatures of varying brutality, Charles Band has proven to be a very nice and entertaining fellow.
More clips are shown featuring stars at the beginning of their careers; Helen Hunt (Trancers), Demi Moore (Parasite), Vigo Mortensen (Prison) and Mariska Hargitay (Ghoulies) are just a few of the many mentionable name drops. From this point, the fans get inside looks and stories regarding upcoming features. With much anticipation in the underground horror scene, Demonic Toys 2 and Puppet Master: Axis of Evil are discussed and given release dates (the former being Dec 2009, and the latter being Feb 2010). Once the news for future Full Moon Features has been covered, the night moves on to that electric chair curiously sitting on stage.
This cavalcade of horror and laughs culminates in a fan improv that give those who get the loudest cheers a chance to take part in a scene created for the road show. Opening with a trailer designed to set the mood, we learn that there is a satanic serial killer about to be executed until… he sees his girlfriend being groped by his backstabbing best friend and her lesbian lover (funny enough?). Our trailer has also divulged the only thing to calm a raging satanic serial killer. He must see boobies. With that said, the screen blackens, and we see “Titty Master” take form. So, in a blind rage, our satanic murderer falls to his knees while he and the crowd are ever so kindly shown two pairs of boobies. Everyone applauds, and the air is filled with boyfriends yelling with pride at their bare chested ladies. What a beautiful night.
The show ends with a couple of auctions, and two fans walk away with items for much less than actual cost. For those
who didn’t bid, there is still a drawing where somebody gets the chance to go to Hollywood and be electrocuted in the upcoming production of Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver. Half naked girls, auctions, contests and extensive selections at the merch section helped make this show one of the best in the horror convention world.
2009 marked the third time this writer has been able to attend a Full Moon traveling carnival of horrors, and it’s only gotten better. For anyone that missed it this year, here’s to making sure you catch it in 2010. Charles Band is host to one of the most memorable shows and certainly one of the greatest film studios to ever contribute to our nightmares. It was a great time and will hopefully only get bigger as it carves its way from city to city again next year.

Myself and Charles Band
