This is just a reminder to everyone out there that we are a mere seven days away from the DVD event of the new year.  If you aren’t familiar with Stephen Romano’s Shock Festival…what are you doing still reading this?  Go purchase the book.  It’s chock full of the greatest exploition film posters, plots, and behind the scenes stories that don’t even exist.  Romano, who co-wrote Incident On and Off a Mountain Road alongside Don Coscarelli, invented all of these wild movies and producers and dedicated a huge volume of outlandish splash pages and backstories to his creations.  In one weeks time, a companion piece will be released; a three disc DVD set that will feature over seven hours of grindhouse trailers, television commercials, and radio spots.  Many of these trailers will be for actual movies, but some will be for the films that Romano completely made up.  If you like the 42nd Street Forever series, I can’t imagine this being any less cool.

Here’s a glimpse at a few of the posters inside the book that may or may not have made it onto the DVD:

Sharkhunters: The greatest post-Jaws film about Vietnam vets who return home to find their loved ones have been eaten by sharks.    They’re going to need bigger guns!

The Warrior and The Serpent: An Italian “epic” made in the wake of Conan that features neither swords nor serpents.

The Amazing Mutating Freak: An F/X showcase for make-up legend Rick “Blaster”

The book is absolutely amazing and I recommend checking it out as soon as possible.  The DVD should be an entertaining and enlightening experience to say the least.  February 9th can’t arrive soon enough.

You can pre-order Shock Festival right here.

And get the book while you’re at it.

Man, the book is a blast to read and it features “cameo’s” by Ashley Laurence and Thomas Jane, and maybe even Jack Ketchum as some of the fake celebrities.

I seriously love the Mock up posters and stuff. You know I’ve always loved that sort of thing “Don’t Play with Voodoo” and featuring So and So as Montgomery :p :p

  4. I have read about this book somewhere before, but I unfortunately have not checked it out yet. Looks awesome. I’d rather get the book than the DVD, though!

Myersfan, don’t feel bad. I did the same thing with Black Dynamite. Apparently it got pushed back two weeks.
